How to register a business in Slovenia with the Trade Register
In order to register a company in Slovenia with the Slovenian Business Point, investors should prepare documentation on the following:
- the company’s trading name (the name must be unique at a national level, and this is why it is necessary to conduct a search with AJPES, which stores the data on all legal entities registered in this country);
- details on the company’s shareholders and directors;
- the company’s registered address (documents such as rental agreements or sale-purchase contracts can be used in this sense);
- the company’s objects of activity.
In person vs. online registration
The process for company registration in Slovenia can be completed in 2 main ways:
- online registration (on the Slovenian Business Point portal);
- in person registration (at one of the more than 130 one-stop shops, operating under the Slovenian Business Point).
What are the responsibilities of the competent registration authorities?
The Slovenian Business Register is not limited solely to company registration in Slovenia. The authority also provides assistance to businessmen so that they can begin their operations here, some of which refer to:
- electronic services;
- business consultancy;
- information on foreign investments.
AJPES is in charge with many legal obligations companies have once they have begun their activities, and some of the main responsibilities of this institution are:
- maintaining a registry on all the legal entities that have been incorporated in Slovenia (since 2008, the institution merged with the Slovenian Business Point and the Court Register in matters concerning the process of company registration in Slovenia);
- it also maintains up-to-date information on corporate insolvencies, starting with 1st of October 2008;
- it collects and publishes the annual reports of companies required to submit financial papers (there are more than 170,000 companies that need to submit records to AJPES).
